About Good Pitch

On Thursday, 12th November 2020, we had the pleasure of hosting Good Pitch 2020! Over 170 guests from over 10 countries and 200 organisations around the world checked in as we presented 5 brilliant documentary films by 5 teams of vibrant, promising East African talent to our audience of global friends and partners. The films collectively drew pledges for production support, screenings and distribution, assistance with online crowdfunding, community advocacy for impact campaigns, and formed alliances with government, corporates and NGOs.

This edition’s films covered a variety of themes from education, literacy and reclaiming colonial spaces for the purpose of rebuilding African identities, to exploring the plight of missing persons and conversations around the sharing of leadership and power in South Sudan. Each of the 5 films packs a powerful punch and holds great potential for real-world impact by shaping important discussions about the future of Africans.

The pitching event in November was a hybrid of a live event, hosting a safely socially distanced audience as well as a virtual audience.

This was the second Good Pitch Kenya event we have ever held (the first was in 2016), and our first one online. With many moving parts (including remote cameras, live performances and a large team of production professionals at the helm), we hope you agree that we pulled it off despite a few small technical hitches! This massive communing of like-minded individuals and organisations in these strange times was inspiring and uplifting, and this generous engagement is exactly the spirit that the Good Pitch is built on.
