The Docubox Summit

Rooted in East Africa's
creative ecosystem.

The Docubox International Partnership Summit is a four-day gathering that brings together our funders, partners, filmmakers, and the broader Docubox community — strengthening the relationships and creative exchange that shape film in our region.

Now in its second year, the summit runs alongside two significant programmes — the Docubox Creative Producers Lab and Rough Cut Lab Africa (RCLA) 2026. Partners don't just hear about the work — they're in the room where it's happening. Sitting in on lab sessions, meeting filmmakers, and engaging with projects at every stage of development.

On the 18th of July, the summit opens to the wider filmmaking and creative industry for panel conversations on co-production and distribution, an open roundtable with film funds, festivals, and distributors, and a screening.

Running Alongside

Creative Producers Lab — Docubox's first-ever fiction feature programme. A five-day intensive for Kenyan filmmakers developing feature-length fiction films, with hands-on mentorship from experienced creative producers.

Rough Cut Lab Africa 2026 — Co-hosted with Rough Cut Lab Africa, RCLA works exclusively with African directors, editors, and consultants, offering connection with long-form independent African films at the rough cut stage. This year's edition places a special focus on East Africa.

The Conversations

On the 18th of July, the summit opens its doors for a series of panel conversations, an open roundtable, and a screening.

Panel · Co-Productions

Building Together: Models of Collaborative Production From the Continent

Exploring the different forms co-production takes across Africa and between African filmmakers and international partners — financing and producing structures, bilateral creative corridors, institutional frameworks, and continental collaboration.

Panel · Distribution

Building the Pipeline: Distribution Opportunities for African Film

How African films reach audiences and the systems being built to make that possible — continental and diaspora distribution networks, local theatrical exhibition, emerging digital platforms, and regional solutions.

Open Roundtable

Meet the Funds, Festivals & Distributors

Filmmakers, producers, and the wider creative community connect directly with the film funds, festivals, and distributors present at the summit. Attendees rotate between tables, each organisation anchoring conversations and introductions.
