Kamera Kwanza

Kamera Kwanza is a monthly documentary screening series presented by Docubox in partnership with Goethe-Institut Nairobi. Launched in 2024, the series showcases compelling feature-length documentaries by African filmmakers while creating a welcoming space for audiences to engage with and reflect on contemporary African storytelling.
Each screening is followed by a conversation with the filmmaker—either in person or virtually—offering audiences an opportunity to engage more deeply with the stories, themes, and creative processes behind the films.
Beyond public screenings, Kamera Kwanza also supports learning and professional exchange within the filmmaking community. When visiting filmmakers are in Nairobi, the program includes small masterclasses and knowledge-sharing sessions that bring together emerging and established filmmakers for dialogue and mentorship.
Through this ongoing collaboration, Docubox and the Goethe-Institut Nairobi provide a consistent platform for African documentary cinema—celebrating filmmakers, connecting audiences, and strengthening the documentary storytelling ecosystem in the region.
