Ted Countdown
About the Project
The TED Countdown Climate Storytelling Project was a collaboration between Docubox and the TED Countdown Summit, designed to support emerging filmmakers in telling urgent climate stories.
Seven film students from universities in Nairobi participated in storytelling and mobile filmmaking workshops before receiving production grants to produce five-minute climate films using smartphone technology.
The films explored a range of climate issues affecting communities in Kenya and premiered during curated screenings before being shared through impact screenings in schools and communities.
The program also supported filmmakers whose films Green Pedal (directed by John Omahe) and When The Water Rises (directed by Wendy Munangwe Isendi) were showcased at regional film festivals, with When The Water Rises winning the Best Smartphone Film award at the Ateker International Film Festival.
